Greg Egan closes the Orthogonal Trilogy by forcing the Peerless to live with the consequences of the voyage that Yalda began. The book opens twice: first with Valeria on the home world watching Hurtlers from a hilltop near Zeugma, and then with Agata, Pio, Lila, Ramiro, Greta, Tarquinia, Medoro, Serena, and others inside the mountain generations later. That split matters because the whole novel is about events that are simultaneous, reversed, delayed, or made politically dangerous by the physics of orthogonal histories.
